Leather
first came into my orbit when I became the
doorman/coat-check/bar-back/food expeditor @ the now demolished...The
SPIKE, which was originally located at 120 Eleventh Ave. (at 20th st.)
Charles Thompson-C.T the owner hired me at the time and Andrew the cook,
worked those infamous "Sunday Brunches"...(from noon until 5pm) for
$10.95, and included one drink.
Andrew would make me cut-up so many mushrooms and stir the butter for
the hollandaise sauce which would eventually end-up in those delicious
Eggs Benedicts ala Spike, The transformation of making a bar into a
tropical oasis was always fascinating and our customers seem to
appreciate it. The dining hall a.k.a.. "The Palm Room." with actual Palm
trees (was always my favorite to assemble) Sadly, The Spike closed in September of 2000 due to the on going
gentrification of New York City.
Leather made another impact on my life when Marc Berkley (R.I.P)
encouraged me to take the job with Jack Stoddar, The booking agent for
The BLACK PARTY which was held at Roseland (1994-1997 active). If you are not
familiar with The BLACK PARTY it is a large venue full of men and women
from all over the world with one common denominator= LEATHER
infatuation...and all this entails with NO regrets or limitations.
The BLACK PARTY is a traveling circuit party and I'm very honored to
have experienced some truly phenomenal adventures within it's
boundaries.
Here is my LOVE for LEATHER throughout the years.
