FLASHBACK to 1988 for all of those individuals LUCKY to be alive in such
an explosive time, Creatively. I was graduating high school and eagerly
looking forward to whatever the future would offer me.
At this
point in my life, I had already started to conquer my shyness and nerves
(on stage) because I was in a comedy, acting troupe in high school and
we had to compete sometimes with rival schools etc. etc.
In the
photos, I wore my leather jacket (religiously) and it was hand-painted
with various musical influences at the time- P.I.L, Dead or Alive,
Culture Club, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure, The Smiths and so
many more.
F.Y.I-I also designed the t-shirts in high school that everyone is wearing in the photos (Teddy's Improv).
So...
The day I met very cute Steve Buscemi, I remember it like it was
yesterday. One of the coolest approaches ever, I was leaving Delancey
Street and walking around in the East Village and this guy came out of
no where and called for my attention.
He said, I really LOVE your jacket! A lot it's very cool".
I
replied with a smile, Thank You! and than I looked at his face and
almost fell-out but I had to stay calm in my head...Why? Because
Partying Glances had come out 3 years prior and I was a huge fan of the
film. Something, a young gay boy would watch over-and-over-again, The
soundtrack alone is SUPERB!
We had a very pleasant
conversation and than he invited me to a play he was putting on at La
Mama's theater and I was thrilled. The play was good and I do recall on
opening night Steve cut himself on-stage (a small accident but blood was
on him throughout the performance and I remember thinking, Poor Baby
hope he's ok.
He came over to greet me and my friends during
intermission and we all enjoyed the play. Never saw him again but so
PROUD of his great success and I will always cherish meeting an
incredible thespian.
