(Glih nee) Gay and Lesbian Youth of New York - A youth founded, youth run support group founded in August 1969. I started to attend regular meetings at The Gay & Lesbian Center in Manhattan for GLYNY around 1987, My passion in those days was to become very pro-active in the gay community (outside the stifling environment) in which I was being raised in the Bronx.
Once GLYNY opened my eyes to other gay youths out there (in New York City at the time) wanting to be political and socialize within the community, I was hooked. I can recall the first time GLYNY was officially allowed to march in the gay pride parade in NYC. This is when the parade route was extended beyond belief when PRIDE ran amok amongst it's participants and we all cheered in harmony and less discord.
GLYNY gave me access to be a co-facilitator at one meeting and on this particular day we had an instructor come in and teach us all the proper techniques to SAFE SEX...Thinking back, "We were in the mist of the A.I.D.S Genocide and we planned on being the GENERATION to EVOLVE"...So idealistic for the future.
PS-I owe the GLYNY organization a HUGE gratitude because before I attended those first meetings my personality had not blossomed as of yet. Months into my initiation, I sprouted out with an abundance of self-PRIDE. Thank You, ALL GLYNY members.
If you look closely you will see me appear at the end of the video tutorial.
The only thing I can tell you about this photograph is, It was taken in Miami @ The Winter Party in 1996 and recently discovered by Paul Krofchik (also pictured in the image/ he's the first hottie in the picture). Me & Ivan on South Beach, together...Trouble & FUN TIMES!!!
(So very sorry I can not recall the two other hotties in the picture).
Oddly enough, It seems like just yesterday (20 years ago in retrospect)... I received a phone call from my boss (at the time) Marc Berkley-R.I.P,
to meet at a photographer's apartment with some of my contemporaries
and do a photo shoot for HX magazine. The cover to be persis. In those
early days of Marc Berkley's
rising gay-club superiority, he'd amassed a selected few of
reliable, dependable go-go boys (within his employment) and I was
fortunate enough at the time to be among one of those in his inner
Right Place! Right Time!...The Beginning, The Infancy of the Legendary nightclub LIMELIGHT. This was about two years prior to meeting one of the go-go boys who would become my "BFF".
This picture was recently posted on my Facebook page and instantly all
the memories came flooding back with it. In this photo: Drag
sensation/BoyBar Beauty-LuLu-R.I.P, Mark Allen, Frank Quesada, Carlos Pertuz and Me.
Bet Marc Berkley's throwing a few phenomenal parties in HEAVEN.
The story is about two male entities inhabiting the same body throughout the 1970s,1980s,1990s and up-to-present day. One speaks in journal entries (the writer), the other speaks with a vivid, creative, wicked, imagination (the artist). A paperback comic book or an E-Book (available now Chapter One)...You should "STEP into the DARK WORLD" it is where these two male beings reside & survive.
