‘Wonder Woman’ First Look: Chris Pine as Steve Trevor

We’ve gotten plenty of glimpses of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman,
even if we haven’t seen her on the set of the heroine’s first solo film
in the DC cinematic universe just yet. She’ll be popping up in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice next spring, so we already know what this big screen version of Wonder Woman is bringing to the table. But what we haven’t seen is her co-star Chris Pine, until now.A new photo from behind the scenes of Wonder Woman has revealed Pine in his World War I wardrobe as Steve Trevor. But it’s the source of this photo that also reveals a new cast member that we hadn’t heard about yet.
First of all, here’s the photo showing Chris Pine in Wonder Woman (via ScreenRant):
Both of these photos came from French actor Saïd Taghmaoui (La Haine, Traitor, G.I. JOE : Rise Of Cobra, Three Kings) on his Facebook and Instagram, but they’ve since been deleted from both pages. Of course, this is the internet, where nothing ever really disappears, so here they are.
As you can see, both Pine and Taghmaoui are wearing World War I wardrobe, confirming that at least part of the story takes place in the past. If you’re wondering why that piece of paper in the background says “Nightingale,” that’s the working title for the movie to try and keep things low key for people who aren’t aware of what the movie is from snooping around on set.
We recently heard that the second half of the film takes place in present day, and a different rumor had Steve Trevor working with Wonder Woman in present day to prevent some kind of World War III kind of event. But taking this photo into account, we likely won’t see Steve Trevor around in the second half of the movie unless he’s an old man or some kind of sci-fi element comes into play to keep him young.
As for Taghmaoui’s role, we don’t know if he’s playing a character from the comic books or how significant his role may be. But since he’s got a chair right along side Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, it must be a pretty meaty role.
Otherwise, we haven’t heard much about any other supporting characters with the exception of Nicole Kidman potentially playing an Amazonian warrior. With production on the film from director Patty Jenkins underway, surely we’ll get some more information on the rest of the cast soon, so stay tuned for more details.
Wonder Woman is slated to arrive on June 23, 2017.
Wonder Woman's Movie: What We Know So Far
Every time we talk about Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel follow-up here on Cinema Blend, we refer to it by its official name, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This is certainly an accurate title, as the film does promise to feature the titular heroes squaring off, but it leaves out the third big player who is getting her live-action feature debut in the project: Wonder Woman
The great Amazonian superhero will be introduced in Snyder’s movie when it reaches theaters on May 6, 2016. It’s unclear at the moment, however, how screenwriters Snyder, David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio (Argo) plan to use Princess Diana of Themyscira in this film. Will it be a more limited role, letting the film focus more on its eponymous characters? Or will she be an integral part of the narrative, assisting Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) as they contend with the evil schemes of the already announced Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg)? Perhaps the biggest question overall, however, is in regard to how Batman v Superman will lead into her officially announced solo film, which is now officially in the works.
We’re still waiting on a lot of answers to our most pressing queries, but for now, let’s dig into everything we know about Wonder Woman’s cinematic future, as Warner and DC Comics try to get their collective act in gear and keep pace with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Release Date
There has been plenty of buzz going around over the last few months pointing to the idea that a Wonder Woman
movie was in the works at Warner Bros., but what once was merely rumor
is now official fact. The studio has confirmed that they are indeed
giving the heroine her own film, and that it will be coming out in 2017 –
the same year as Justice League Part 1. This means that
production on both movies is going to have to take place next year,
which means serious work for the actress playing the crucial superhero
role…
Gal Gadot
Some audiences discovered Gadot already. She played Gisele in the last three Fast & Furious movies, and had parts in Date Night and Knight & Day. But there’s no question that Wonder Woman will be the biggest role the actress has ever attempted. So, how many times will she attempt it?
Her Contract
At the time of her signing, it was confirmed that Gadot has inked a three-picture deal with Warner Bros. that will begin with Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Of course, we also now know that the two other movies will be the solo Wonder Woman film and Justice League.
The interesting hitch in this is that we already know a second Justice League movie is on the table, with Justice League Part 2 being confirmed for 2019. Does this mean that the sequel won’t feature Wonder Woman? Or is Warner Bros. not willing to totally bank on Gadot and extend her contract until they find out what audiences think of her portrayal in Batman v Superman? At this point we have way more questions than answers.
