LOVE all the documentary films about Robert Mapplethorpe, Something about his naked eye view and his demand to capture the viewer and mesmerize them has always drawn me into his "Universe". I had the esteem pleasure to work with and met Ken Moody when I was a personal trainer for some regular soap opera stars (including my long-time friend Matthew Walton) back-in-the-day,day. Ken Moody was very aware of his aesthetics and his enormous contribution to GAY HISTORY & Art.
We never really touched on his connection to Mapplethorpe and the few times we did interact, He seemed very aloof and standoffish, Which at the time suited my personality quit well because at that point in my life, I was feeling very "FUCK-YOU to the WORLD"...Middle twenties living and working in Hell's Kitchen around 94-96.
Robert Mapplethorpe has always influenced my style of art. I try and pay great homage to the "LEGEND" my always mastering some illusion of perfection in each of my illustrations. Everything about Robert Mapplethorpe's Art is illuminating and provocative.
I adored the film documentary titled: Arena - Robert Mapplethorpe (1988)
Also fell madly in love with:Black White + Gray A Portrait of Sam Wagstaff and Robert Mapplethorpe (2007)
Now Fenton Baily of (The Eyes of Tammy Faye)fame has done it again, Delivering a remarkable scope on the art, the era and the influence of Robert Mapplethorpe's BRILLIANT rise to Fame and all his excess was delicious for a SUPER FAN like me.
BRAVO!!! To Fenton Baily and HBO for tackling this subject matter and doing it in the style it deserves, Pure Classic!!!
Titled:Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures (2016)-
A MUST SEE!!!
