(Repost)-Reminiscing
about another friend that has been gone for some time now but every
once in awhile he will run around in my brain, Just to recall the "GOOD
TIMES". Hope he is teaching them all his brand of choreography...(In
Heaven).
Danced with him one night in the basement of a club
called-MARS which was located on the West side highway of Manhattan,
Near the now glamorized "Meat Packing district" but back in the day, day
this was the festering home for crack-addicts,drug pushers, deviant and
treacherous, deadly trashy drag-queens...The lowest ones on the totem
pole scraping for the scraps thrown out by nameless tricks driving and
discarding trash out the window.
This area was tough but it was
also where the big venue clubs where popping-up and at this point in the
early 1990's. Clubland was just getting it's feet wet and testing out
every avenue and venue which could crowd a bunch of sexually confused
teens and loud music and cheap beers...Those days of yest er year.
Me and Willi were right there causing a commotion.
Anytime
I worked the door doing the list and handing out drink tickets when
Marc Berkley would assign me this illustrious position. Mostly cause
someone called in sick or whatever, I never mind standing out in the NYC
night letting in beautiful, handsome, muscular boys & girls and
rejecting certain other unmentionable types. Limelight, Jackie 60 or
wherever, I was employeed at the time, SECURITY always hand my back and
these fucking dudes where built like gigantic refrigerators (no doubt
some had to be packing heat) but I don't remember.
Willi Ninja
would NEVER Pay when I worked the door and I always comped him with free
drink tickets, Him and his colorful entourage.

PS-Every
time I see this drawing I laugh a little inside (Willi had a way of
always making me smile) because waaaaaayyyyyy before I started letting
Willi Ninja into the clubs (I primarily worked the door entrance and the
V.I.P Lists).
In that dimly lit basement I proceeded to vogue battle with Willi Ninja, Now remember this is before "Paris Is Burning" fame for him and I believe before MTV for me but as a dancer I knew of his reputation.I recall the entire experience as being playful and sweet.I had forever gained a friend that night and the feelings were mutual, throughout my club scene days in Manhattan, New York...Whenever I was doing the list, I would ALWAYS COMP Willi and his entourage. He was always gracious and would talk with me for awhile before he went inside and conquered all dance floors.R.I.P My friend you are forever MISSED!!!
