N.W.A-Straight Outta Compton-BRAVO!!!

Speaking strictly from the point-of-view of a rabid fan and an insatiable consumer of buying music (1988) was the penile of EPIC!

Thankfully I had just graduated from Theodore Roosevelt high school on fordham road in the Bronx and at the time, It really seemed like we were all living and breathing in a gigantic, war stricken environment.


In the Bronx, I had to learn quickly "how to adapt" or get swallowed up by the mass-producing "nothing" around me. Yes! I thought it was cool living in the same vicinity of Yankee Stadium-Put I never attended a game or was the least bit fascinated but I LOVE all the players and those hot outfits...Anyway, I digress.

Watching N.W.A's rise from California and hearing about life in Compton, Appeared to be the same struggles everyone was surviving universally (at that particular time) somehow the music always managed to keep the natives at bay...My generation relied on those beats to get us through our everyday BULLSHIT!

Standing in line at Tower Records (the one location in the West Village on Broadway-which has been demolished years ago) this was home base for record buyers and when Dr. Dre's The Chronic hit the airwaves. Immediately I bought it, Also I had the good fortune to be working @ MTV on this show you might have heard of called; The Grind. We danced to The Chronic several times and Snoop Dogg's music was just more fantastic music to ease the mind.

Watching the film, I felt great pride and great sadness. To see Easy E not live to celebrate his hard work (TRAGIC) but I have to believe GOD has a plan for all he does. The odd similarity of the group having financial difficulties just like another famous group which was also working for free on stage and not seeing the fruits of their labor.

TLC-T-Boz,Left Eye & Chilli...Remember when fraudulent record producer Pebbles-The singer of the song "Mercedes Boy" from 1987, Stole all their money when they "BLEW-UP the SCENE".


SHAME! on those crooked thieves who exploited all that raw, beautiful, ground-breaking talent just so the devil could fill your greedy pockets-DISGUSTING!
The casting was so spot-on, Ice-Cube's son looked just like him and he gave an incredible performance (they all did). I could not turn away it was just remarkable to see the story behind those mind-blowing lyrics and infectious beats.

I enjoyed the biopic about The Notorious B.I.G and this one was IMMACULATE as well. Great script, Great costume design, Making the locations materialize so authentic and the crowds of extras...I'm so fucking jealous. This must have been an AMAZING project to work on. Their music raised a generation of artist and free-thinkers. Although I know in real life, They and I would be on apposing sides but music speaks to anyone with an eclectic ear for smooth beats and heart-felt lyrics. This movie should be mandatory to show up-and-coming so-called talent how to start a real revolution with GOOD MUSIC!
